About Korean American Coalition Washington
Korean American Coalition Washington (KAC-WA) is a non-profit, non-partisan community organization based in Bellevue, WA, dedicated to strengthening and empowering the Korean American community through comprehensive civic engagement programs. Since its founding in 2002 as the Korean American Voters Alliance (KAVA), the organization has established itself as a leading advocate for Korean American participation in civic, legislative, and community affairs across Washington State.
KAC-WA delivers targeted services across four primary areas: civic education and participation, leadership development, community advocacy, and professional networking. The organization conducts voter registration drives, provides civic education programs, and facilitates access to election information through resources like the KA Voters Guide. Leadership development initiatives cultivate civic-minded leaders within the Korean American community, while community advocacy efforts champion the needs and interests of Korean Americans at local and state levels.
The organization has grown significantly since its 2002 inception, when over 2,500 attendees participated in KAVA's kick-off convention. In 2006, KAVA became the official Washington State Chapter of the National Korean American Coalition, which operates 15 chapters nationwide. The 2008 merger with the Korean American Professionals Society of Seattle further expanded KAC-WA's capacity to serve the community. Today, KAC-WA boasts over 4,500 members and maintains strong relationships with political officials at all levels throughout Washington State. The organization operates as a volunteer-driven entity supported by member donations and grants, offering member benefits including access to exclusive events and discounted programming for those engaged in civic participation and community building.
